October Favourites


A belated favourites post. I don't have enough favourites to warrant a monthly post but I'll do my best to do it as frequently as possible.

This is such a good book that I spent the majority of October racing through. I'm going to put a full review up soon but in short, I didn't want to put this book down throughout the whole of the month.

As you can see, this little tube has been fairly abused recently - I only bought it a few weeks ago - as a result of the chaos on my face right now. But this stuff works wonders. You just need the smallest amount on that angry, red spot for a few nights and it completely disappears. It is very drying though so I like to put it on after my night moisturiser to protect the skin surrounding the spot a bit. I've got a slightly more in detail review here.

I don't need to bang on again about how much I love these little pot of goodness - they've been consistently feautured throughout this blog, I hope you've got the general gist. I bloody love them. Enough said. And, this is my perfect shade for Autumn as I'm loving a purpley smokey eye right now.

Whilst redecorating my room I stumbled across this old favourite and flicking through it I realised that this is the book that taught me most my make up tricks and tips. I bought this when I first started properly getting into makeup - maybe two years ago - and I would never put it down. It doesn't matter what skin type/hair type/various shades and colours you are, this has something for everyone and I've thoroughly enjoyed going back through it and picking up old tricks. 

ASOS Sleek Large Face Watch 
I only bought this recently and it's already out of stock - sorry! - but I've found alternatives here, here and here. This style of watch goes with everything and it's my only accessory of choice at the moment. It such a classic style that I think I will continue wearing as long as it still works/isn't falling apart.

Winter Clothing Wishlist

As the colder months are definitely upon us, I've been loving the Autumn/Winter wishlists that are popping up more and more frequently at the moment. So I wanted to share my own Winter Clothing Wishlist with you.

My winter coat is getting very tired looking as I've had it for a few years now.. I'm not really the type of person that just buys coats on a whim as I tend to think "I won't need that for months!" until it gets to Autumn and I realise that my coat is a little more ragged than I initially thought. These two coats instantly caught my eye, mostly because of how warm they look. The one of the right is the Faux Fur Lined Short Parka Jacket from Topshop. I love how the faux fur runs all the way through the coata and the navy blue colour would be so versatile. The coat on the left is the Chestnut Brown Faux Fur Trim Hooded Duffle Coat from New Look. I think I have a slight obsession with faux fur this winter., The colour of this coat is gorgeous and is so different from anything I have - it just reminds me of Autumn. I also love the Burgundy version.

I would love a pair of big, chunky, platform boots this winter. I'm pretty late to the party with this one as I originally hated them and thought they were ugly but they have massively grown on me recently. Both pairs I found whilst scrolling through Asos. I love the gold detailing on the left pair - River Island's Para Concealed Platform Boots - and I think the would really dress up an outfit with the suede across the front of the boot. The right pair - Asos' Empire Chelsea Ankle Boots - I would definitely wear day to day because of the Chelsea Boot style and I think they would look better once they'd been worn in a bit.

Anything tartan. Honestly, I would be quite happy to live in a mix of tartan throughout the winter. There's just something about it that screams cold weather, wrapping up warm and Christmas - maybe it's the Scottish connection?!. And I just love the way a tartan skirt or dress looks with some woolly tights and a nice pair of boots.

Skincare Haul


I do not know what's been going on with my skin recently - it's been breakout central. So I thought I would give my skin a much needed treat in the shape of some new skincare goodies. Also, as I purchased these a little while ago now I'll give you little bonus reviews as well!

Montagne Jeunesse Face Masks // Mud Pac Dead Sea - Manuka Honey Peel Off - Passion Peel Off
I remember when my mum used to treat me and my friends with these at sleepovers! I saw these when I was in Boots and wanted to try them again. I've only used the Passion Peel Off one so far and there wasn't a noticeable difference but it did make my skin feel so soft! Even if they aren't brillinat, I wouldn't mind, I bought them more for the novelty and they're only a pound!

This is my first hot cloth cleanser and I'll tell you what - I've been turned. This feels like such a luxury product despite the fact it's only £10. This has a gorgeous lavender smell when you use it so I love to use it before bed as it's very relaxing. However you do need a fair amount to do you're whole face and I only like to use it after I've taken off my eye makeup so I don;t use to much product.

Yes..There was a deal on, pesky Boots. But this purchase was to address the breakout central situation I have going on at the moment so this little tube has been thoroughly tested. And it's been brilliant for those angry, hurty, red spots. The instructions advise you to use it overnight and then reapply in the morning but I've only been using it overnight and it's worked wonders. I'll warn you though, it usually gets a bit worse before it gets better but stick with it because the results are so good!

What's On My Face #3

Excuse the crappy lighting and the late post. I lost my memory card, sorry!

It's been a while since I've done one of these posts so I thought I'd update you on what I've been putting on my face on a daily basis recently.

I bought this hoping it would be a good replacement for my Rimmel Lasting Perfection foundation and I've really enjoyed using it lately. I do think that this shade is slightly too dark for me, but I make it work by using not as much as I usually would.

I'm finally giving my trusty old Collection Lasting Perfection a break and am currently using this one. I've recently begun to have major dark circles under my eyes and this does the trick of covering them up. I do have to reapply a little bit throughout out the day as it's not as long lasting as the Collection concealer.

I love this powder for when I want a little bit more coverage.

Now that my summer 'tan' is fading fast, I've started to bronze up a bit more in hope of clinging to it! This is one of my favourite bronzers in my collection because it's not to dark or muddy on my pale skin and blends out really nicely.

This blusher is a lovely dusky pink and perfect for an understated, Autumn look.

This mascara is my new firm favourite. It's got a big ol' bristly brush that just grabs every single lash. And the packaging is so pretty - how could I resist?!

All I've been reaching for recently to do my eyeshadow is this palette. It's excellent for creating any look or you can just go for one colour and it still looks amazing. I've reviewed it here.

Eyeliner // L'Oreal Super Liner Black Lacquer (Black)
I fell out of love with this eyeliner for a long time but I've recently started using it again and I love it. It's so easy to create a perfect flick or just a simple line close to the lashes. 

In my recent Top Ten Post I mentioned that I didn't have a favourite eyebrow related product. However I think that the L'Oreal Super Liner Brow Artiste has definitely taken this spot. The colour is perfect for my eyebrows and isn't too dark and the waxy end sets my brows perfectly. When I don't use the wax, I use the Rimmel brow gel.

BOOK REVIEW // Sharp Objects - Gillian Flynn

Yes, I'm still trudging through my 'Summer Reading List'. I recently read this book within the total of 48 hours - it's that good. I'd say better than Gone Girl (review here). I didn't know where I was at any point in this book, there are so many plot twists and hints to what could/did/would happen that I was brilliantly confused.


The story is narrated by Camille Preaker, a journalist from Boston who, only a few weeks out of a psychiatric hospital, is forced to return to her hometown to cover the story of the murders of two young girls. After eight years away from home, Camille tries to reconnect with her estranged, hypochondriac mother and 13 year old half sister. Whilst trying to solve the murders of these two girls, Camille finds herself strangely connected to the victims and continues to discovers likenesses. Through unravelling these gruesome murders, Camille also starts to pick at her own past and sees how they are connected and realises that she will have to solve the story of her own past before she can solve the murders. With as many and more revelations in this novel as Gone Girl, Sharp Objects makes for an fascinating and disturbing read that will make you want to keep reading this to the end without putting it down. There is something deeply unhealthy about this book and it's far darker and more twisted than Gone Girl. Reading this book made me feel sick to my stomach but however much I tried, I could not put it down. However it's makes you think and really gets to the root of the characters psychological problems and the story really grips you.


I highly recommend this book but do think it is only suitable for older readers as it's very graphic.

Where have I been?!

Well, I have been gone a while haven't I? I felt like I needed to explain myself a little bit before I properly get back into the swing of blogging again. It honestly started off with my thinking 'I'll just have a few days off' but then a few days has seemingly turned into a few weeks. It's just been one excuse after another to not start taking photos and writing posts again. I just completely dropped off the blogosphere, I haven't even been scrolling through Bloglovin' that much. But I'll fill you in on what I have been doing.
  • I redecorated my bedroom and I'm still going. It's a mammoth task considering that I have the smallest bedroom ever.
  • I've been working like a mule, a very tired and hurty mule. I honestly haven't stopped, but on the brightside I have a few haul posts in the pipeline, 
  • I've been looking and applying for apprenticeships. I'll redirect you to my posts 'What on earth am I going to do with my life' and 'Life Update' if you want the full back story. It's hard and not fun to find apprenticeships in Cornwall - they're very limited to say the least.
  • I've been spending time with my family, my boyfriend and myself. I just felt like I needed to relax a bit, so I did. But now I'm ready to put more effort into this little corner of the internet again, oh how I've missed it.

Haircare Haul

One of the positives of working a lot is having more pennies to spend and I decided it was about time I gave my hair some lovin'. As I've recently gone for the chop - I shall direct you to my Twitter for this - I thought it was the perfect time to throw myself into a decent haircare routine to try to prevent the awful state my hair was in previously.


John Frieda Frizz Ease Heat Defeat 
I'll hold my hands up here - I never use a heat defence spray. Big no no, I know, but I've just never really taken it into consideration and it's not like I blow dry my hair everyday. But then my hairdresser informed me that because of the curliness of my hair, any heat will dry it out. John Frieda's cheap and cheerful anyway so even if it does end up collecting dust of my dresser at least I won't be much poorer because of it. 

Charles Worthington Volume and Bounce Texturising Spray
This has been frequently described as a dupe for the Oribe Texturising Spray but the main reason I picked this up was because of the 3 for 2 deal on all haircare - I told you I was a sucker for those. And how could I resist a well known dupe?!

L'Oreal Paris Elvive Fibrology Thickening Masque
One of the banes of my life is my thin hair, I am constantly trying to give my hair the oomph it longs for (hence the above purchase). I haven't heard much about this hair mask at all but I thought I would give it a go. And even if it's not brilliant at thickening my hair, it smells amazing.

Under The Sea

Ok, maybe not literally the sea. But I can sill dream to be Ariel, can't I? Last Saturday I had a rare day off so me and the boyfriend went on a 'date' to Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay. I've wanted to go there since I've lived in Cornwall and I never had the chance so I finally persuaded someone to come with me! 

Blue Reef is a fairly small aquarium so it was a massive difference to The Sealife Centre in Brighton which is the only other aquarium I've been too. But Blue Reef has such a dedicated staff and you can tell that they really care about the animals there and are more than willing to answer questions. Also, throughout the aquarium, there were very informative posters about all the different species the aquarium had to offer.

The Giant Pacific Octopus was probably my favourite part of the aquarium. We were lucky enough to be in time for the daily feeding and the boyfriend was like a child he was so excited. The lady that fed the octopus was so helpful and gave an amazing talk about this particular octopus - she's 18 months old and likes to play. See, I do listen - and about octopus' in general. Considering that the holiday season is over, this brought in quite a crowd and just shows that the locals are supportive of this aquarium, which is a big deal in Cornwall. 


 Towards the end of the tour of the aquarium, they had a massive tank with a walkway through the middle of it. This bit is always my favourite part of aquariums because I feel like you can really see all the variety of fish in the tank rather than just looking at the from one perspective. Within this tank was a Loggerhead Turtle who was rescued from Greece unfortunately blind. It was so sad to see him blindly swim around this massive tank but I know that this is probably the safest place for him as due to his blindness he cannot be released.
I enjoyed the day so much, I'd definitely go back. And I'd reccommend Blue Reef to anyone in the Newquay area, it's only £10 which I think is a good price for all the different species you can see. Now I'm working on persuading the boyfriend to go to Newquay Zoo...

Beauty Haul


I've been a bit uninspired with makeup recently as I've begun to work full time (in not a very glamorous job may I add) I only really experiment with makeup on the weekends - if I can be bothered to put it on at all. Even when I've been out in the evening recently I've only really stuck to a simple look and throwing on a bold lip, hence the majority of the products I've been buying recently are lip products.

If you saw my 'Real Techniques' post you'll know that I have recently ventured into the world of the Real Techniques brushes. This particular one has already taken a firm place in my makeup bag after replacing and old kabuki brush I've had for aaaages. This brush is just so fluffy and big that just one sweep across my face leaves it perfectly powdered. 

This was an impulse buy as there was a offer on Clinique products in Debenhams. A rushed five minutes later and thinking that my collection was a- missing a chubby stick and b- missing a orange lip product and I was left with this product in my bag. I've yet to use it but after a quick swatch I found that it's much sheerer than I was expecting but a really gorgeous orangey shade. I'll obviously keep you updated and there may even be a review in it.

Tayna Burr recently featured this in a vlog and I've been lusting after it ever since. It's a pretty pink colour and is fairly similar to the Rimmel Lipstick I've also bought but just a bit more glossy and suits me so much more. 

It's no secret that I love these lip products. I've raved on and on about them and I've finally extended my collection - best decision ever. I recently wore Ole Flamingo on a night out and my friend actually text me the next day to ask what exact lip product I was wearing because she was amazed at the lasting power. Ole Flamingo is the gorgeous bright pink shade at the top and Frambourjoise is a muted down version that is much more wearable in the daytime.

I'm not 100% sure why I bought this product if I'm honest with you - there must have been a 2 for 1 deal on in Boots? This is such a pretty baby pink colour and the Kate Moss lipsticks are amazing, but it just isn't really my colour. The matte finish just doesn't really suit my skintone and washes my out completely. Maybe I'll try and pair it with a lipgloss to give it a bit more oomph but I'll probably pass this one onto my sister.

REVIEW // Makeup Revolution London Run Boy Run Palette


This palette was £6.00 people. I've seen and heard a lot of buzz around Makeup Revolution recently and decided to check it out when I was in a better stocked Superdrug. I was instantly drawn to the Run Boy Run palette because of the gorgeous neutral autumnal shades. I love the rose gold lettering on the shiny black plastic although it does get grubby quickly. The actual palette feels much sturdier than it looks and has survived being in my handbag - if that's any indication!

I have to say that my first impression was very good. You get 12 shimmer shades and 6 matte shades in lovely autumnal colours. They are all so wearable, you can either go with a very neutral look (Hide Behind Me has been a frequent choice to wear on it's own) or you can smoke it up with the darker shades. Break Out From Society is my favourite and I know I'll be wearing that throughout the colder months. All the shades work so well together and you can create so many different looks that this has honestly been the only palette I've been reaching for recently. I also love the names of all the shades, I think they're so clever and well thought out. You also get one of those double ended sponge brushes, but honestly that was straight in the bin - does anyone else think they're such a waste of time?

Obviously, as the palette was only £6, these eyeshadows aren't the best I've ever tried. A few of them need a good few layers to make the colour solid and the shimmer shades are far better than the matte shades. But, if you can be bothered to build them up and experiment a bit this palette is a dream to use. Also, they are quite long lasting - I use this palette for work quite often and even on particularly hot days the eyeshadows are still in place and are still fairly opaque.

5 Things I've Learnt From 5 Months of Blogging


Ooh, that's a long title. So today is Corkscrew Curls' 5 month birthday! I've enjoyed having a blog so much more than I ever thought I would and although I know I haven't always been consistent *slaps hand* I definitely know that I'm going to carry on. SoI thought I'd share a few things I've learnt in the first five months.
  1. Yes, use your blog as a outlet for everything but don't turn it into a bitchfest, No one wants to read that.
  2. Don't read too much into Google Analytics. As long as you enjoy your blog and you're proud of it, who cares how many followers you have?
  3. Be organised. Notebooks, diaries, calenders, graphs, tables. Find your preferred way of organising and stick to it!
  4. Don't stress yourself out trying to strictly keep to your blogging schedule. Take a few days off if you're feeling uninspired. You're only human and I'm sure your readers won't mind. 
  5. Have fun with it and don't turn blogging into a chore. You started because you wanted to, not because you had to. Start as you mean to go on.

Life Update

I know this post is a day late but I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to post this. As much as I'd rather not be sharing this with the internet, I did promise to keep you updated and thought I'd explain a few things. 

In my last 'Life Update' post I told you about my new job as a marketing apprentice starting in mid September. Unfortunately, I only found out the other day that I no longer have the apprenticeship as the place I was going to be working for changed management, decided not to take on a apprentice and no one thoughht to tell me. So, only a few days before I was supposed to start my new job I was told this. It's safe to say I was very upset. Luckily, the job I've had throughout the summer can keep me on so I'll at least be doing something and earning some money. I don't want to have a moan because I want my blog to be the most positive thing it can.

At the moment, I'm going back to square one and staring to look for more apprenticeships. This experience hasn't put me off apprenticeships, it actually has made me more determined to find a new one. I also know that I won't be as laid back as I was previously and I'll pester the company until I've signed on the dotted line so this situation won't happen again.

Hopefully, I'll be back to normal posting this week but I'm not going to promise anything. I've been feeling so unmotivated recently - I'm sure you'll understand why.

BOOK REVIEW // Only Ever Yours - Louise O'Neill

I recently featured this book in my post 'Summer Reading List' and I finally got around to starting to read those books. In all honesty, this is the best book I have read in a long time. I haven't wanted to put it down at all, which to me is a sign of a very good book.

I stumbled across a recommendation for this book in Company magazine and instantly thought that this is the kind of book that I love. It's set in the future after the world has pretty much gone to shit and society has decided to get rid of unnecessary things - cars, livestock and women naturally giving birth to girls. Females are now genetically made and brought up in The School until the age of 16 when they are either chosen as a companion, a concubine or a chastity. Men completely dominate this society and are in control of everything, including when companions have to be 'terminated'. The main character in this novel is Freida, a 16th year student coming up to the Choosing Ceremony. This book echoes many teenage girls worries - Am I too fat? Am I too thin? Am I pretty enough? - and massively amplifies them because whether you're pretty enough or not can have a drastic change on your life after The School.

This story is so cleverly written and I know it's one that I'll read over and over again. Little things such as female's names not starting with a capital letter show just how unbalanced this world is and gives you a real feel of how little women are valued. I am warning you now - this isn't a happy story. It's very harshly written and the quote on the front of my copy 'O'Neill writes with a scalpel' (Jeanette Winterson) is so fitting.

I reccommend this book for people who enjoyed the 'Uglies' series by Scott Westerfield.

Top Ten Tag


I was tagged to do this post by the lovely Jordan and as I've been struggling with the ol' blogger's block recently, I thought this would be a good post to get me back into the swing of things.

1. Foundation
My firm favourite is 100% the Bourjois Healthy Mix. The colour I have is a perfect match for me, the lasting power is amazing and the coverage is just right for how I like it. 

2. Powder
Staying true to my Bourjois Healthy Mix obsession, my favourite powder would have to be the Bourjois Healthy balance powder. As much as I love the Rimmel Stay Matte, this powder just has that much more coverage. And it smells so good!

3. Concealer
I don't think this will come as a surprise to anyone as my favourite concealer is the Collection Lasting Perfection - obvs. I won't bore you with the details, you already know how good this is.

4. Blush
Topshop's Cream Blush in Head Over Heels is so pretty! It was my staple coral blush throughout the summer and I'm definitely going to try to work it into my Autumn makeup routine.

5. Bronzer
Soap & Glory's Solar Powder has been the only bronzer I've been reaching for recently.The two shades make it great for the paler skin tone and it doesn't appear muddy or orange once it's on. 

6. Highlighter
Even though I'm not one to regularly use highlighter, I always return to the same one when I feel the need for a bit of highlight. Topshop's Glow Highlighter in Polish is so pretty and is so easy to apply. Because it's a cream highlighter you only need a tiny bit.

7. Mascara
The only mascara I can think of that I continuously repurchase is some version of Max Factor's False Lash Effect. Even though I wouldn't consider it my current favourite, it's just always there in my makeup collection and always finds it's way into my Boots basket when I know I've run out. That's got to count for something, hasn't it?

8. Eye Shadow
I found this hardest category in the tag post to choose a favourite. I like to switch and change my eye shadows so frequently that I couldn't say whether I consistently return to a certain shade. Eyeshadow is definitely the makeup that I love to experiment with and create different looks. The Soap & Glory eye shadows are some of the best I've tried though. Ooh, and the Maybelline Colour Tattoos. 

9. Brows
I've never found a brow product that I've been totally happy with and I just sort of muddle along with a selection of half-decent pencils, gels etc. So I don't think I could tell you my favourite. I'm open to suggestions though.

10. Lip Product
If you have read a recent review here on Corkscrew Curls, you'll know that my current favourite lip product is Bourjois' Rouge Edition Velvet lip stain. Oh my, I think it's unnatural how much I love this lip product. To avoid repeating myself I'll just direct you to my review post here if you want to read about my love for this product.

REVIEW // Yes To Carrots Moisturising Eye Cream


I've been looking for a decent eye cream for a while as I'm still to be convinced that it's a worthwhile investment of time and money. I'd been torn between purchasing an anti-ageing eye cream (as my mother always says "you can never start anti-ageing to early) or a moisturising one. As you can probably tell by the title of this post, I went for the latter. 

Since I've seen Youtubers such as Lily Pebbles talk about the Brand 'Yes To', I've been keen to try their products and on a recent Feel Unique browse I finally decided on the Yes To Carrots Moisturising Eye Cream. Now, I wouldn't say the area around my eyes was massively dehydrated, but as I do have dry skin on the whole I thought this would be the best eye cream for me. At £9.99, some people may think it's quite expensive for a little tube but I was expecting good things from this makeup brand so was willing to pay the price. Also I think skincare isn't something you should skimp on. The instructions on the tube suggest that you use this both morning and night but as I've found that it takes a little while to dry, I only tend to use it at night along with my night moisturiser. The product itself is very thin so it doesn't feel heavy on the skin and doesn't feel sticky at all. The moisturising aspect of this eye cream is also very good and I did notice a difference after a few nights use. So far, I can say that this is a good addition to my skincare routine and I'll carry on using it. But whether eye creams are actually game changing thing for me is still to be determined.

Skincare Haul


Tea Tree & Witch Hazel with active Charcoal // Deep Cleansing Facial Scrub
I've used the Tea Tree & Witch Hazel facial scrubs for a while and because this one has activate charcoal in it, it really caught my eye. I've heard and read that charcoal is good for your skin and decided that this would be a good place to start trying it. It says on the back of the tube "Charcoal gently cleanses and attracts dirt like a magnet, drawing out deep down impurities & excess oil without over-drying."

Simple // Vital Vitamin Night Cream
Simple has always been a staple brand in my skincare routine because they're cheap and they work well. Although I wouldn't say I have sensitive skin, I think Simple works really well for my skin type, especially as a lot of their products are very moisturising. I bought this because I wanted an intensive night cream ready for thw colder months when my skin generally goes to crap and although I have been enjoying using the Garnier Moisture Match for Dry to Very Dry Skin, I wanted a change and thought this would be good to try out.

Simple // Moisturising Facial Wash
I've used this facial wash for ages and I like to use it in the morning whilst I'm in the shower. I like that this product is just a facial wash and doesn't have any other qualities and doesn't irritate my skin.

Waiting for Autumn

Now, don't get me wrong, I love Summer. During the short lived heatwave we experienced in England earlier on in the year, I was the first to be outside sunbathing and swimming in the sea. But the longing for woolly tights, scarves and winter coats is starting to creep in. I want to wear boots without feeling like my feet are going to fall off because they're so warm. And most of all, I want to cover up my wobbly bits and feel 100% comfortable in what I'm wearing. And I can wear all black without feeling judged. 

Autumn is definitely my favourite season. The crisp, cold days still have hints of bright sunlight and it's not too cold to go on beach walks. Also, because where I live is a very popular tourist spot, everything begins to calm down and you can go outside without feeling like a stranger in your own village.

Also Autumn means it's nearly Christmas. Every year I tell my self that I'm not going to get over excited for Christmas too early and every year I find myself counting down from about October... And I have a lot of good things planned over the chillier months. My new job starts, I'm spending Christmas with my dad's family and it's mine and my boyfriends one year anniversary.

It's not that I want to wish away summer, but I just really love Autumn.

Real Techniques


Yes. I've finally caved in and bought my first Real Techniques brushes after a routine browse of the Feel Unique website. "Why did you wait so long to buy them?" I can hear you say. Well, I'll be honest with you, I didn't really believe the hype. Oh, how wrong I was. They are the best makeup brush related purchase I've ever made and you can be sure that I'll be expanding my collection very soon. As I'm not really sure where this post fits in, consider it a haul/first impressions/review.

Probably my favourite out of this little haul. This is the softest brush ever. As soon it was out of the packaging I couldn't stop stroking my face with it - yes a little bit weird, but it tells you just how soft this brush is. Because this brush is tapered it holds the colour well and distributes an even amount of colour across your cheeks.

When I first got this I was surprised at how small it was. "This is supposed to blend foundation over my entire face?" was my reaction. But because it's so dense it is great at applying liquid foundation if you're willing to put a bit of work into it. I like to use this aswell as a larger foundation brush to create a flawless finish and ensure that everything's blended in perfectly.

This little brush packs so much colour onto the eyelid it's unbelievable. This is, again, a very dense brush that works so well at applying a base colour to your eyelid and is also brilliant at blending out a smoky eye look.

Beauty Haul

I love the formula of these nail polishes and I just had to get this colour when I saw it. The dusky pink colour is so pretty and really wearable throughout summer and autumn.

You can't go wrong with Carmex and I've repurchased this so many times I've lost count. This is so moisturising, it's the only lip balm I swear by.

I didn't actually own an eyebrow gel before I got this. As much as I love the Maybelline Brow Drama, I wanted a clear gel for the days I didn't really feel like a bold brow.

As you can probably tell by now, I love Maybelline Colour Tattoos. So obviously I had to get two more - I'm a sucker for a Boots '3 for 2' deal. I'm loving pink smokey eye looks at the moment, so the colour 'Pink Gold' was a must. 'Permanent Taupe' is also such a nice simple colour which I think will work really well throughout autumn and summer.

Advice I'd Give My 12 Year Old Self

I think 12 years old is a difficult time for everyone. You've just gone up to secondary school, puberty starts to kick in and a whole bunch of other stuff just seems to happen to us at this tender age. For me, my parents had just split up and I was starting to clash with people at school. Here's a few things I would say if I had the chance to sit down with my 12 year old self. 
  1. Stop worrying about how you look. And stop with the glitter liquid eyeliner - it's conjunctivitis waiting to happen.
  2.  Stop straightening and bleaching your hair - years later you'll regret the damage you've done and wish you'd embraced your natural, curly hair.
  3. Actually do the work you've been given. Just because you were on the 'Gifted and Talented' list in primary school doesn't make you a genius. Learn to study and revise now instead of years later. 
  4. Try to enjoy secondary school, it will be the easiest and probably the best years of your life. 
  5. And stop falling out with people. Learn to stop holding a grudge and to be able to let things go.
  6. Do not take part in that talent show. It will haunt you for years.
  7. Stop liking and joining groups/pages on Facebook, you'll still be unliking well into 2014.
  8. And finally, stop stressing out. Please.

Non-Beauty Favourites

This is my first Non-Beauty Favourites post! It's not going to be a monthly thing though because I can be quite picky with my favourites. I love reading about other peoples favourites so I figured that I would do my own!

I love this kimono! Admittedly, I jumped on the kimono band wagon pretty late but I am so glad I purchased this. I have literally been wearing it with everything - jeans, shorts, dresses - it just instantly dresses up an outfit. And it is so flattering on.

Company Magazine
I love Company anyway but recently it's been the only magazine I've been reaching for. Their summer fashion articles are on point and I have been loving their recent 'blogger related' pieces. It sounds soppy but it's so inspiring and motivating to see someone who was in my position maybe a few years ago featured in a successful magazine.

Sunshine On Leith
If you're after a lovely, heart-warming, cheese-filled musical than you need to watch this. I for one love cheesey muscials so I knew this was going to be a win. This film features the music from The Proclaimers and despite only knowing the ol' classic 'and I would walk five hundred miles' it was so good! 

Orange A4 Notebook // Paperchase
I bought this earlier on in the year and it has come in so handy recently. It literally holds everything going on in my life whether it's mundane shopping lists, blogging schedules or my random 3am thoughts - I'm not the only one that wakes up still half asleep and scribbles nonsense down, am I?

Boardmasters 2014

I'm sorry for the late upload for this post but better late than never! Some of you may know that I spent the last weekend at Boardmasters, a festival that takes place in Watergate Bay, North Cornwall and I just thought that I would share my experience with you. You can have a nosey on their website here if you'd like to know more about the festival. As I forgot my camera *slaps wrist* this blogpost will be very chatty as the only pictures I could find have been stolen from my sister's and boyfriend's twitter/instagram accounts.


The reason I was at Boardmasters this year was that my previous bosses, who I've worked for for years, have just started up a little catering type business in an Airstream caravan (see above, look how cute it is! And they're Facebook page is here if you'd like to check it out). Me, my two sisters and my boyfriend all got roped into working for them which meant that we got free passes to the festival and were able to camp in the slightly cleaner staff campsite. We arrived at the campsite on Thursday after trying to squish everything for four people into my little Fiat Punto - the noises coming from my car actually made me feel sick. After shifting the majority of our stuff into one campsite we discovered that there was no room for us and overheard other staff talking about another staff campsite in another field. Can I just say at this point that throughout the whole weekend the security working on site were for the most part useless. Luckily I found a lovely security guy and managed to flirt my way into the nicer staff campsite which we weren't really supposed to be in - hey, anything for a comfortable nights sleep.

Friday was the first day of work for us and we all walked over to the arena to have a look at everything before the festival-goers descended on it. The first day was amazing, it was lovely and warm and everything was so chilled throughout the day. I also managed to get on most the rides - I'm a massive adrenaline junkie. In the evening I got to go and see Chase and Status which was amazing. I didn't realise how many of their songs I actually knew. And then I was on the late shift at work, it was so funny just watching drunk people stumble back to their tents. Unfortunately my sister, Alice, had a panic attack as she was leaving work because she hates crowds and insisted on walking back to the tent on her own. My boyfriend managed to calm her down eventually.

Saturday was just as eventful. Because not many people were coming into the arena in the morning, I got to spend some time off work with everyone. It was nice that all four of us got to go on rides together and just experience the festival during the day. However, the weather started to get really crappy and pretty much rained for most of the day. But I didn't mind as I got to see Zane Lowe in the evening and it was honestly one of the best performances I've ever seen. He was amazing and the crowd had such a nice atmosphere to it. And then it was back to work for me. Snoop Dogg - I know, in little old Cornwall?! - was performing that night so the crowd was very rowdy and you can just imagine what else!

Sunday was such a stressful day for me. Because of Hurricane Bertha arriving the previous night, the festival was unfortunately cancelled as the severe weather made it dangerous to be anywhere around the arena. As our tent was just about falling down we just decided to pack up and go home. Enter unhelpful security people. Because I had to go get the car and drive it into the campsite so we could easily go home, I thought this would be pretty easy. But no. They had closed the road I needed to go down and wouldn't tell me how to get in the other way. Whenever I tried to pull over and asked a question, someone in a high-vis jacket would just scream and me and tell me to go away. I understand that it was a confusing time for everyone, including security, but I was a young girl, on my own, with literally no idea where I needed to go - I could have used a little bit of help. And I have to admit it, I did have a little cry. Yep, I had to pull into a car park and sob in my little orange Punto. Just so you know, I don't really enjoy driving and I hate feeling lost and then I just begin to panic! But after multiple phone calls to my mum and my boyfriend, I had a vague idea of where I wanted to go and after an hour of stressful driving, I made it to the campsite. Once we'd packed everything up we did the only thing we could do in a stressful situation - we went to McDonald's. Rant over.

So all in all, it was an amazing experience and I'm not going to let it be ruined by one horrible day. I will definitely be going next year, either working or not. I'll just maybe stay in a hotel down the road...

REVIEW // Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet

As you probably know, I only bought this recently. But I can already confidently say that I love this product. I've got the colour 04 Peach Club and it's a beautiful orangey-red when applied. I first wore it out to a family dinner and my aunt even said at the end of the night "how have you managed to keep that lipstick perfect all night" - we were at a pizza place and I'm not the type of person to eat pizza with a knife and fork. I only reapplied once throughout the whole night and that was just a brief touch-up. The formula of this product is amazing, it goes on as a gloss and then dries down to a stain and it really does have excellent lasting power. I haven't tried any of the other colours in the range but I couldn't wait to rave about this to you. The only thing I could possibly fault it on would be that it can be a bit drying on the lips so I would definitely say to use a good lip balm before applying, but that's the only thing! What can I say, I love it!

Summer Reading List

A break from the many makeup related posts I've done recently! I seem to have piles of unread books around my bedroom and I have no idea where to start with them! So after seeing Emily's 'Summer Reading List' blog post, I have decided to start my own Summer Reading List. I'm still slowly plodding through the first book in the 'A Song of Ice And Fire' series, but once I've finished it I will definitely start on the books I am about to show you.

Sharp Objects // Gillian Flynn
I'm also so excited to read this book. As a lot of you may know, I've already read 'Gone Girl' - you can see my review here - and loved it.

Beauty Haul


Well, it was payday the other day... So naturally, I popped into Boots and Superdrug and added a few bits to my makeup collection.

MUA // Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter
This is such a beatiful highlighter. It appears so natural on the skin and it's only £3! I can't remember where abouts on the internet I saw this recently but I haven't been able to get it off my mind for ages. I love MUA products because the quality is so amazing considering the ridiculously cheap prices.

Bourjois // Healthy Balance Unifying Powder (52 Vanilla)
I am officially in love with Bourjois' 'Healthy' range. I already have the Healthy Fix Foundation and this powder is as equally loved. I only bought it the other day and it has already taken a firm place in my everyday makeup routine.

Sleek Makeup // Blush (Rose Gold)
You may have seen this in my recent Beauty Wishlist. Well, I've already gone out and bought it. I saw it in Superdrug and I just couldn't resist.

Bourjois // Rouge Edition Velvet (04 Peach Club)
I have heard good things about these so I just had to pick one up. I haven't used this yet so I can't really say more than that but if I like it I think I will definitely be picking some more up.

Beauty Wish List

These are some of my favourite blog posts to read - I guess I'm just so nosy. I also love sharing what I'm lusting after with all of you. So here they are, the beauty products I've been drooling over recently.


Topshop // Lips in All About Me
Oh, I'd never thought I'd be lusting over a bright pink lipstick but would ya look at me now! This just looks like the most perfect summer 'going out' lipstick as an alternative to my trusty red Rimmel lipstick in 170 Alarm. I love the formula of the Topshop lipsticks and I definitely think I'll be picking this up on my next trip to Topshop.

The Body Shop // All-In-One BB Cream
Throughout the summer, I like to veer away from foundations in favour for the lighter BB creams. I've heard a lot of good things about this and The Body Shop products are some of my favourites all round, where can it go wrong?!

Sleek Makeup // Blush in Rose Gold
I'm yet to dip my toe into the Sleek Makeup pond but I think this would be a good starting place for me. I've seen a lot of people compare this to Nars Orgasm blush and Sleek is much more purse friendly!

Charlotte Tilbury // Filmstar Bronze and Glow
I am not going to be able to justify buying this for a long time, but look at how pretty it is and what's a wishlist for anyway! I've seen this on a few blogs and Youtube videos and before they had even opened it, the packaging had already won me over. It just looks like it's come straight out of The Great Gatsby.

What's On My Face #2

Throughout the summer I usually don't wear a lot of make up because I find it too much of a faff to have half of it sweated off later in the day. And even when I do want to fancy my face up a little bit I tend to stick to a simple look with minimal effort. It's just so much easier to throw this on my face and go.

Primer // Benefit Porefessional
I'm sure you've heard so much about this primer so I'll keep it short and sweet. This primer is so good at helping towards sweat-proofing my make up and keeps it solidly in place all day. This is just a little sample size but I will definitely be purchasing the full size.

Foundation // Rimmel Wake Me Up (Ivory)
I only bought this fairly recently but I love this foundation! It's great for summer as it gives a lovely healthy looking finish and the SPF 18 is also amazing.

Concealer // Seventeen Phwoaar Paint (Fair)
I won't bore you with the details for this one because I've already done a blog post about it here. But long story short, it does the job quite well.

Bronzer // Soap & Glory Solar Powder
This bronzer is amazing for paler skin, it doesn't look muddy on me at all. Because of this I can sweep this all over my face to give it a nice summer bronzed goddess glow (or so I like to think). Annoyingly though, I got this as part of a set for Christmas so it doesn't have it's own portable packaging making it not very handbag friendly. But other than that, it's my favourite bronzer at the moment.

Mascara // Maybelline Big Eyes Volum' Express Waterproof (Black)
I love a good waterproof mascara throughout the summer. Because I live so close to the sea, I usually go for a quick dip after work and with waterproof mascara I'm covered for any possible panda eye situations. I've actually had this mascara for a while now and didn't really like it when I first got it. I think it's one of those mascaras that are a lot better when they've dried out a bit.

Eyeshadow // Maybelline Colour Tattoo (Eternal Gold)
I like to think that this cream eyeshadow adds to my 'bronzed goddess' look. I love using these eyeshadows, they're so easy to apply - you literally just need a quick sweep over the eyelid - and they last all day. The colours are amazing and pigmented enough to be worn on their own, or you can use them as a base to create another look. I honestly can't rave enough about these!

Eyeliner // Soap & Glory Smoulder Kohl (Cocoa Bean)
The black version of this eyeliner was featured in my last What's On My Face post and what can I say? I just love them. They're easily smudge-able but can also keep a nice clean line.

Lips // Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick (Nudist)
This is just one of those lip products that looks so much nicer when you have a tan. Throughout the winter this colour just didn't look right but now I am loving it! It's pretty much been my go-to lip product recently. Wow, I've only just realised that is quite a few Soap & Glory products.
